INTRODUCTION
The idea of setting up of the International Youth Centre in Malaysia as first mooted by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and sports and the Asian Youth Council and was endorsed by the Rt. Honorable Dato, Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, the then Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia at the Annual General Meeting of the Asian Youth Council in Kuantan, on 17th August 1976.
Since then, the International Youth Centre, located on 4-acre land at Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur with the close co-operation of various international and local youth agencies, has been hosting various youth activitiessuh as courses, seminars, worhshop, conferences, youth exchange programmes ad others. A library and exhibition centre were also set-up at this centre.
Equipped with a main admin building which includes a gym, meeting place, cafeteria and a hall, IYC has been host to number of Kuala Lumpur SEA Games events in 1991.
Today, the IYC still standing tall as the centre for youth to meet and exchange ideas from all over the world. |
